With proper food intake and plenty of exercise, I truly believe America could eliminate 99% of ADD/ADHD.

America is the fattest nation in the world and our obesity rate is skyrocketing yearly. Depending on what study you go by, between 60-80% of the population is considered obese.

I do not believe in children dieting, just changing their menu and boat loads of exercise. If it comes out of a bag, box or can, don't eat it. Have plenty of fruits and vegetables cut up and available in your fridge that the kids can grab when they get hungry. If its as easy as grabbing a bag of chips, it becomes less of a struggle to get them to eat healthy.

Since the 1950's, our serving sizes have tripled along with our wastelines. According to FDA standards, the obesity rates of today are much more relaxed then in the 1950's. In other words, you have to weigh much more today to be considered obese than you would have 50 years ago. We have super and giant sized everything. A commercial for a national fast food chain boasts "I am full!" This clever marketing campaign gives us permission and actually encourages us to eat large portions and stuff ourselves. It's just more money in their pockets.

Not only are the sizes out of control, the ingredients in our food are scary! Studies have shown we are not even decaying properly after death due to all the preservatives we ingest. The chemicals listed below are hazardous to your health and should be avoided.

MSG. This additive is in everything from Chinese food to snacks to sauces. It can also be hidden in the term "natural flavor" or "spices." MSG is an excitotoxin which means when neurons are exposed to these substances, they become very excited and fire their impulses very rapidly until they reach a state of extreme exhaustion. Several hours later these neurons suddenly die, as if the cells were excited to death.

Partially Hydrogenated Oil. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck. This is made from regular vegetable oil that has been heated to extreme temperatures long enough to break apart the chemical bonds, turning it into a substance that does not exist in nature. Food companies love it because it extends the shelf life of their products. Don't be fooled by labeling that says "no trans fats," read the ingredients, it still may be in there. This unnatural ingredient is thought to be one of the leading causes of hardening of the arteries, which can lead to cardiovascular disease. I never eat any food with this ingredient and it should be avoided at all costs.

Aspartame. Found in diet sodas and sugar free foods. Aspartic acid makes up 40% of of Aspartame. It is a sugar substitute that is also considered an excitotoxin. Hyperactivity is stimulated by aspartic acid, so this substance is not good for ADD/ADHD and should be avoided during pregnancy. This substance is labeled as a carcinogen in Europe.

Fluoride. First used in Nazi Germany for submission purposes, it slowly kills portions of the brain to make people more complacent. It is a by-product from the aluminum and steel companies. They dump their hazardous waste into our water supply and toothpaste and we pay them for it. For every Congressman, Representative and Senator there are at least five lobbyists from the aluminum and steel companies stuffing money into their coffers to make sure this legislation will support and market the benefits of Fluoride even though it is terrible for you. Fluoride is a carcinogen. If you look at any toothpaste label it will say "children under 6 should be supervised while using this product (to avoid swallowing.)" If Fluoride was safe, this kind of labeling would not be necessary. Install a reverse osmosis unit in your home to remove fluoride from your drinking water, and use fluoride free toothpaste.

There are literally hundreds of other chemicles to avoid, the ones listed above are good ones to start to watch out for and remove from your diet. I believe that all of the additives in our food, which do not occur in nature, along with a lack of exercise are causing our children to develop ADD and ADHD. Lets change this today by buying organic, whole food. While this is certainly a more expensive way to eat, you will probably be saving money at the doctor's office in the years to come.
